Developer Minas Michaelian wants to build an 86-unit apartment complex for retirees on 13 acres in Eastport where almost a decade ago local officials shot down a proposed mixed-use development, according to the Southampton Press.

Michaelian has developed two similar 55-and-older communities on Long Island and also built an industrial park in Center Moriches. His new proposal is for 11 two-story buildings, along with a clubhouse, recreational areas and parking.

The development site is in Brookhaven Town and requires the Brookhaven Town Board to approve a zoning change. The board shot down a 75,000-square-foot commercial complex for the site in 2011. [Southampton Press] — Dennis Lynch
