NJ prohibits indoor dining at restaurants, bars as Covid cases surge

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy announced another round of restrictions for bars and restaurants aimed at curbing the surge in coronavirus cases, according to the New York Daily News.

Indoor seating will be banned at bars, and restaurants must now close by 10 p.m., according to the report. No establishment may serve food or alcohol between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., including Atlantic City casinos. Gaming will be allowed to continue during those hours.

Similar restrictions were imposed at restaurants and nonessential businesses in Newark late last month amid a spike in cases there.

The rate of positive tests in New Jersey been steadily rising since mid-October, and is currently at 6.8 percent. The rate was as low as 1.6 percent in mid-August, according to the nonprofit research group Covid Act Now. [NYDN] — Dennis Lynch
