A dispute between Southampton Mayor Jesse Warren and the son of rival Mark Epley is at risk of becoming a farce.

Zach Epley, whose father had been mayor, has accused Warren of squatting in a family-owned apartment in Southampton Village, the New York Post reported. Warren claims the accusation is completely political.

Epley bought the property in July and served Warren a 90-day vacate notice in October, a month after losing a seat on the village board to a Warren-backed candidate.

He now claims that Warren hasn’t paid rent since early December and accused Warren of abusing the statewide eviction moratorium.

Warren admitted that he is overstaying his lease, but said he’s paid up through this month.

Warren claims the Epleys are deliberately not cashing his rent checks and want him out of Southampton Village so he is ineligible for re-election.

Warren said he closed on a new lease elsewhere and will move out next month. [NYP] — Dennis Lynch
