East Hampton’s “White House,” which dates to 1724 and is one of the village’s most recognizable properties, has sold for $7 million.

The 7,615-square-foot home — which was moved back from the road in 1906 — is the first house motorists see as they enter the village, making it a local landmark. The home at 6 Woods Lane had been on the market for two years, according to Newsday, which reported the sale.

The late developer Fred Mengoni bought the house in 1989 then spent several years restoring it. The three-acre property also includes a heated pool and pool house, tennis court, three-car garage and a barn dating from the 1850s.

It hit the market in 2019, a year after Mengoni died, asking $12.5 million. The prices was soon reduced to $9.5 million. The deal closed in December. [Newsday] — Dennis Lynch
