Yale signs big lease in push to make New Haven life sciences hub

Yale University announced it will be the anchor tenant at Winstanley Enterprises’ planned 101 College Street building in New Haven, which the school called “a key project in the city’s effort to become a national hub for the life sciences industry.”

The project is part of the city’s Downtown Crossing economic development plan. Construction is expected to begin in June.

The school is signing a lease for 125,000 square feet across three floors of the 10-story building. The lease includes office and biomedical lab space.

Yale will also commit funding to a 48,000-square-foot incubator space in the building, meant for local biotech startups.

Thanks in part to the university, New Haven is home to many life sciences companies. Late last year, research company Halda Therapeutics signed a lease at the renovated Winchester Factory building about two miles from 1010 College Street.
