It wasn’t a record, but the recent sale of a Stamford mansion sure came close.

A residence at 123 Saddle Rock Road sold for $7.5 million, the second-largest residential sale in the city’s history, according to the Westchester & Fairfield County Business Journals, just $700,000 shy of the record set in 2003.

The 5,175-square-foot home sits on 1.67 acres in Shippan Point, a wealthy peninsular neighborhood jutting into the Long Island Sound. It has 7 bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms, with 956 feet of waterfront.

Some of the biggest prizes that come with the home, however, are its amenities, including a saltwater pool and pool house, a guest house and a lighted tennis court for late-night racketry.

Despite the near-record sum, the home was sold for well below its initial April 2018 listing price of $11.9 million. The sellers had a tough time getting rid of the property, pulling it in January 2020 when it was listed for $9.8 million, putting it back on the market in May 2020 for $8.9 million, then dropping it to $7.9 million before it finally sold for $7.5 million.

The deal marks the fourth time the home has changed ownership since it was built in 1914.

According to the publication, the mansion’s second-place ranking may be short-lived. A residence on Rock Rimmon Road in Stamford has been listed for $10 million, while another on Erskine Road has been listed for $20 million.
