After washing his hands of the Miami Marlins, New York Yankees legend Derek Jeter aims to do the same with his estate north of New York City.

The former shortstop is putting Tiedemann Castle, a lakefront compound in Orange County’s Greenwood Lake, on the auction block, the Wall Street Journal reported. The auctioneer wouldn’t confirm the seller, but a limited liability company tied to Jeter bought the property in the 2000s for a reported $1.6 million from a trust connected to his family.

The Hall of Famer has tried multiple times to unload the massive property. Jeter and his wife, Hannah, listed the 12,000-square-foot home in 2018 for $14.7 million but pulled it from the market a year later. The listing reappeared last year with a $2 million discount. Then, earlier this year, it was relisted at $9.5 million.

The minimum bid at the auction, scheduled for Dec. 15, is $6.5 million. If nobody offers that much, the property will go unsold.

The castle-style home was built in the early 1900s, overlooking the town’s namesake lake. There are six bedrooms, 12 bathrooms, a large turret and a replica of the Statue of Liberty. The house, sited on four acres, also has five kitchens (including an outdoor one) and an infinity pool.

Jeter has a personal history with the home. The Tiedemann family bought the home in 1952. Jeter’s grandfather, William “Sonny” Connors, was adopted by the Tiedemanns and grew up at the castle. A family trust was the entity that sold the property to Jeter in 2003.

Paramount Realty USA is conducting the auction. Diane Mitchell of Wright Bros. Real Estate has the listing.

This would be Jeter’s second recent major property sale. Last year, he sold his waterfront estate in Tampa for $22.5 million. Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady and his then-wife, supermodel Gisele Bundchen, were tenants at the home prior to the sale.
