Antenna control drives Durst dissent

Douglas Durst and Anthony Malkin, who placed ads in several New York City newspapers a week and a half ago calling for a reconsideration of plans for the Freedom Tower, may have been motivated by the fact that they stand to lose millions when the World Trade Center skyscraper is built. Durst and Malkin both own skyscrapers farther uptown that, following the destruction of the twin towers, have become the city’s hottest properties for television and radio broadcast facilities and their antennae. The Port Authority is currently planning to build an antenna on top of the Freedom Tower that would be the highest in the region and would almost certainly draw broadcast business away from Durst and Malkin’s buildings. more [Sun]
