Orbach street naming gains support

The widow of actor Jerry Orbach gained the support of Community Board 4 in her campaign to have a west side street named after her late husband. Mrs. Orbach failed last month to get the backing of neighboring Community Board 5 for the proposal. The board has written a letter to the Department of Transportation endorsing the street naming. “This community board seldom recommends named street signs,” the board’s letter says. “However, we feel that in this instance it will illustrate the prominent role our neighborhood plays for Broadway and off Broadway professionals in addition to celebrating Mr. Orbach as a much-loved neighbor.” more [NYT]
