In the two weeks since his appointment to the position of acting buildings commissioner, Robert LiMandri has been left to work with a department in upheaval over the high number of construction deaths and corruption allegations left behind by his predecessor Patricia Lancaster. It’s Construction Safety Week in New York City, where 13 construction workers have died in accidents so far this year, and right now LiMandri’s biggest task is rooting corruption from the department and ensuring thorough safety inspections in the wake of the March crane collapse that killed seven people.
