Coney Island businesses are worried what Thor Equities post-Labor Day plans are. Thor is opening an amusement park on Stillwell Avenue with 30 rides, but only 13 will stay on after mid-June. Coney Island businesses worry that Thor will turn its property into a strip mall or just abandon it. Thor Equities President Joe Sitt had cleared the property back when he expected the city to quickly rezone it for development. “I’m not afraid to praise them when they do the right thing, which is put in rides, but these rides are not staying and they’re still planning a shopping mall and 30-story hotels,” Coney Island USA founder Dick Zigun told the Daily News.
