East Village residents, developer debate future of Extra Place

East Village residents and developer AvalonBay differ on the future of Extra Place, a side street off of East First Street and between Second Avenue and the Bowery. The developer, which has already built two condominiums on Extra Place, hopes to Expand On The Street and has shown the community board plans including a pedestrian mall and other neighborhood amenities. Residents are concerned that further development would destroy the remaining traces of the neighborhood’s history.
