Buildings department may have ignored crane danger warnings

The city Department of Buildings ignored warnings from Bethany Klein,
former
head of the department’s cranes and derricks unit, that a tower crane
was in
danger of collapsing after sustaining damage at a midtown building site, the
Daily
News concluded after seeing e-mails Klein sent to department employees
and outside consultants. The crane collapsed May 30 at East 91st Street
and First Avenue,
killing two construction workers.
