The plan to convert the former Empire Stores warehouse at the Brooklyn Bridge Park development into a retail center has been put on hold. The state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation said this week that the Brooklyn Bridge Park Development Corporation doesn’t want to take possession of the space in this economy. Two other parts of the development, a hotel planned for Pier 1 and luxury apartments, have also been shelved over the past few weeks. But the developer claims the project is still on track.
