The state says Donald Trump is in arrears for failing to pay rent last year on the site of his planned catering hall and restaurant in Jones Beach. The state parks agency sent a letter last week informing Trump and partner Steve Carl that they have 20 days to pay $207,307 or their 40-year lease to build and operate the facility could be terminated. Trump’s lawyers responded saying he did not have to pay rent because the state required him to obtain a variance for construction in a flood zone. The variance was denied, but Trump sued the state and won the variance, and now the state is appealing the ruling.
