The new tax incentive program for first-time homebuyers is spurring a lot of interest, Rochester’s WHAM ABC 13 reports. The program gives first-time buyers a credit worth 10 percent of the home’s purchase price, up to a maximum of $8,000. First-time buyers make up 40 percent of the home buying market in Rochester, NY, according to Sharon Quataert, a local broker with Keller Williams Realty. But only a limited number of homes are available in their price range because current homeowners are reluctant to upgrade to more expensive homes.
