Friends of the High Line is asking the City Council zoning committee to save the High Line’s northern third section, which curves around the rail yards from 30th to 34th streets, between 10th and 12th avenues. The section is in limbo because it is still property of the railroad company CSX, while the rest of the High Line is owned by the city. Robert Hammond, co-founder of Friends of the High Line, told the committee that the rezoning for the Hudson Yards does not mention preserving the High Line, which leaves the last third of the project at risk of not being completed. Hammond urged the city to initiate the process of acquiring the last portion from CSX to preserve the structure.
