James Abadie, head of New York operations for construction firm Bovis Lend Lease, has resigned amid investigations of the company for alleged overbilling and bribery. Bovis is working on the September 11 Memorial and the demolition of the Deutsche Bank building. Abadie has worked at Bovis since 1980. According to the Daily News, a construction industry source said Abadie felt he had become a “distraction” to his company because of pressure from the ongoing federal investigation, and because he was “stressed out” from years of delay and controversy over the Deutsche Bank demolition. When asked whether the resignation was linked to the criminal investigations, a spokesperson for Bovis would only say, “He resigned.” [NYT] and [NYDN]
