A Houston-based company may soon make a lot of Brooklyn preservation activists very happy. After numerous promises to restore the more than 70-year-old Loew’s Kings Theater at 1027 Flatbush Avenue near Beverly Road in Flatbush, the city has tapped ACE Theatrical Group to spearhead the $70 million restoration. While the project could take several years (early estimates say the theater could open as early as 2014), city officials say that ACE is in a unique position to restore the theater, which last welcomed audiences in 1977. The company has worked on numerous theater restorations in the past, including the Boston Opera House.
