LI developers sued over “inaccessible” housing

Attorney General Andrew Cuomo has filed a lawsuit against one developer and settled with seven others in cases surrounding equal access to housing for people with disabilities. Trammell Crow, the Texas-based developer, is being sued for the 795-unit Atlantic Point Apartments on Long Island, which allegedly has “extensive inaccessible features” that the developer has not addressed. In each of the settlements, three of which involved New York City-area complexes, the developers will have to retrofit their units and common areas to bring them into compliance with accessibility laws and pay a total of $145,000 in compensation for the disabled individuals who have been adversely affected by the buildings’ designs. The region’s apartment complexes that have reached settlements include: Fairfield Knolls at Port Jefferson Station on Long Island, Hudson Park Apartments in Yonkers and 66 Main Street Lofts, also in Yonkers.
