The 7,000-square-foot duplex penthouse at 995 Fifth Avenue, Extell
Development’s Stanhope Hotel conversion, is being quietly shopped
around for $65 million — around $30 million more than what it traded
for in 2008. The former sponsor unit
belongs to Claude Wasserstein, the third wife of the late Lazard head
and New York magazine owner Bruce Wasserstein, who purchased it for
$34.8 million
in 2008 and remodeled it. The 11-room apartment has
5,000 square feet of balconies and terraces overlooking the
Metropolitan Museum of Art and Central Park, a rooftop addition and
11-foot ceilings. Still, the Observer reported that the price came as a
shock to many brokers. As one source put it, “What did she do? Pour
gold oil in the walls?” [NYO]
