In the slide show above, check out the eight finalists for the city’s urbancanvas Design Competition, announced earlier this week by the Department of Buildings and the Department of Cultural Affairs. The city is asking the public to vote online for up to four winning designs, which will ultimately be displayed on fences, sidewalk sheds and scaffolding in an attempt to beautify the city’s construction sites. Voting will take place through Oct. 1; the winners, each of which will receive a $7,500 prize, will be announced later this year. The finalists are as follows: “Breathing Wall,” by Monika Bravo; “Bang,” by Jiyoun Lee-Lodge; “Color Mesh,” by Mauricio Lopez and Jess Ross; “My Urban Sky,” by Jen Magathan; “Untitled,” by Jordan Seiler; “…of Special Concern,” by Chris Shelley; “Green Screen,” by Corinne Ulmann; and “JazzLine,” by Philip Michael Wolfson, Chris Ridout and Maxim Nilov.
