The Open Society Foundations, the non-profit human rights programs founded by George Soros, has signed a letter of intent to lease 160,000 square feet at the Argonaut Building, the Post reported. The building, which sits at 224 West 57th Street and was formerly owned by the Hearst Corporation, changed hands in September for $85 million when the Beirut investment group that had held a long-term lease on the property converted it into an ownership stake. The new owners, an affiliate of M1 Group, have since been making capital improvements to the building and obtained LEED-Gold certification. OSF, which is currently located in 77,000 square feet at 400 West 59th Street nearby, plans to take 30,000 square feet of retail space, the penthouse, and all other remaining space in the 10-story building.
