New green complex in Bronx to house low-income seniors, homeless

A new 65-unit building designed to house low-income seniors and chronically homeless single adults with mental disabilities will have an innovative design and “minimal footprint,” Curbed reported, making its landscaped spaces as large as possible. El Rio Residence, an eight-floor project which is being developed by Comunilife on Boston Road and East 179th Street in the Bronx and receiving support from New York City’s Department of Housing, Preservation and Development, will accommodate a cellar as well as front and rear landscaped yards measuring 30 feet in depth to facilitate entertainment activities. Construction on the facility is slated for completion by the end of 2013. [Curbed]
