Methadone clinic cleared to make Garment District move from Gramercy

Manhattan Community Board 5 recently approved a plan for a methadone clinic to relocate to 500 Eighth Avenue between 35th and 36th streets from 253 Third Avenue between 20th and 21st streets, DNAinfo reported. This will be the third substance-abuse clinic within the two-block radius of the new location, according to DNAinfo.

Local businesses told DNAinfo that the increased number of drug rehab clinics in the neighborhood is cause for concern, especially because drug dealing and drinking in the area, which they say is by patients of the clinics.

CB5 members told DNAinfo that they approved the move because there are few residential apartments in the area of the new location for the clinic, called Gramercy Park Services. In addition, no one protested the proposal at CB5 meetings. [DNAinfo]
