Boca Raton, Fla.’s so-called Brooklyn Water Bagel — a purveyor of bagels and filtered water — won’t be moving to Brooklyn just yet.

This past spring, its parent company, Brooklyn Water Enterprises, cut a deal to open in the new Barclays Arena, but negotiations fell apart once the arena’s heating and ventilation systems were deemed inadequate for on-site baking. But Brooklyn Water CEO Steven Fassberg tells the New York Post they’re still planning to open shops up near the Brooklyn arena and in Times Square.

Fassberg said the company will still sponsor some events in the arena and provide Brooklyn Water to patrons. The water, while bottled out of state, uses a special 14-step filtration system to mimic the taste of New York City tap water.

Other Barclays retailers are on their way: The Nets Shop by Adidas held its grand opening yesterday. Starbucks, Rocawear, MetroPCS, and the Elbow Room have all made plans to move into the arena. [Post] — Jane C. Timm
