A West Village townhouse, the owner of which appears to be linked to a company headed by J. Christopher Burch, the ex-husband of fashion designer Tory Burch, has hit the market for $19 million. The home at 340 West 12th Street is one in only a handful of townhomes accompanied by its own private carriage house, according to the listing.

The residence came on the market today, Streeteasy.com shows. It is listed by Peter McCuen of Peter McCuen & Associates. McCuen would not comment on whether J. Christopher Burch is the seller of the property.

The owner, who lists his address as the headquarters of J. Christopher Capital, had previously held a long-term lease at the property before purchasing it and had thus secured the property below-market rate from the seller, McKuen said. The company purchased the property for $11 million, $8 million less than the current asking price.

The five-bedroom home could be reconfigured into a seven-bedroom home, according to the listing. It has three bathrooms and two half- bathrooms and views of the Empire State Building to the north and the Freedom Tower to the south.

“It’s so rare to find a townhouse that has its own carriage house in the back,” McCuen said. While many carriage houses in the city are low grade space, the carriage house in this property has been transformed into livable space; it is currently used as a basketball court, according to the listing. It could also be configured as a screening room, a yoga or art studio or could even be used as a pool. The seller also redecorated the property recently, McCuen said.

J. Christopher Burch was married to designer Tory Burch until 2006, when they went through a public divorce. Since Christopher Burch was a major investor in his wife’s self-named company, he remained on as co-chairman of the board, it was reported. However, he later started his own brand C. Wonder which some commentators alleged had strikingly similar aesthetics to his wife’s brand. Tory Burch was previously married to Billy Macklowe.

Christopher Burch was not immediately available for comment.
