Hedge funder Daniel Benton has purchased the whisper-listed duplex penthouse at 730 Park Avenue for a cool $39 million, the New York Observer reported. Meredyth Smith and Serena Boardman of Sotheby’s International Realty, as well as an unnamed Stribling & Associates broker, handled the sale.

The asking price for the penthouse spread was not available, but sources to the Observer said the listing sparked a bidding war when it hit the market this spring. Benton and his wife, Anna, already own another 730 Park 12-room duplex, which they purchased in 2007 for $21 million.

The seller of their most recent acquisition is listed as Joann Walker, but public records do not show the price she paid for the home, or when she bought it.

There are no photos available of the listing, but the Wall Street Journal reported the home has four bedrooms, five terraces, a solarium, a grand staircase and a greenhouse breakfast room. [NYO]Zachary Kussin
