A group of tenants in the East Village — who live in the cluster of buildings that Jared Kushner recently purchased from Ben Shaoul — are planning to meet to discuss their experiences living in the properties, EV Grieve reported. Though an email announcing the meeting did not specifically mention past problems with Shaoul’s Magnum Real Estate Group, the landlord has earned a reputation for controversy in the neighborhood and beyond. Last winter, tenants complained about unsupervised construction work happening at the buildings, at 118 and 120 East 4th Street, according to the blog Occupy East 4th Street.
The aim of the meeting is to discuss past experiences, things to look out for down the line and ways to create a network for information-sharing and support.
Kushner, the son-in-law of real estate magnate Donald Trump, bought a portfolio of seven walk-up rental properties for $49 million from Magnum and Meadow Partners, as The Real Deal reported. This purchase came on the heels of Kushner’s purchase of 17 of Magnum’s walk-up residential properties in the East Village for roughly $130 million, as The Real Deal also reported.
