The Atelier could be adding two big names to its list of celebrity residents. Oscar-nominated actor Ed Harris and Kenan Thompson of “Saturday Night Live” fame are the latest boldfaced names to check out rentals at the Hell’s Kitchen condominium tower at 635 West 42nd Street, a source with knowledge of the building told The Real Deal.
Harris and Thompson would join a growing list of stars that are leasing at the Moinian Group-developed building. In May, Broadway star Deborah Cox and Jerry Stackhouse of the Brooklyn Nets each signed leases at the Atelier, as TRD previously reported.
Harris is in New York to star in the off-Broadway play “The Jacksonian,” which begins its run on Oct. 25. Harris, who’s been acting since the 1970s, is a four-time Oscar nominee for the films “The Hours,” “Pollock,” “The Truman Show,” and “Apollo 13.” He looked at two-bedroom apartments ranging from $9,000 to $10,000 per month, the source said.
Thompson has been on “SNL” since 2003 and made his name in the 1990s series “All That.” He checked out one-bedroom apartments ranging from $5,000 to $6,000, the source said.
Dan Neiditch, president of River 2 River Realty, which handles sales and rentals at the Atelier, declined to comment on whether Harris and Thompson had been to the building.
Several stars have checked out the Atelier over the years, including Lindsay Lohan, Jeff Goldblum, former “Saved by the Bell” star Tiffani Thiessen and comedian Dane Cooke.
Rental units currently on the market at the Atelier range from $3,000 to $12,000 per month, StreetEasy shows.
The 46-story Costas Kondylis-designed property features a sky-lit indoor pool, 12,000-square-foot health club, Rooftop Lounge And Terrace, and a basketball and tennis court. The building’s common charges are also one of the lowest in Manhattan, as TRD previously reported.
