After more than a year of delays, plans to convert the Bedford-Union Armory in Crown Heights into a sport and recreation center are finally in motion.

The city’s Economic Development Corporation put out a call for developers Thursday, seeking someone to either buy or lease the 150,000-square-foot space and transform it into a spot for community use.

Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz has long lobbied for a sport and art exhibition space, and his office has pledged $1 million in capital funds for the long-delayed project.

Constructed in 1903, the armory has most recently housed a supply depot for emergency canned goods and the film set of Men in Black 3. [NYDN]Julie Strickland
