Last weekend the state of New York ordered the removal of a 50-foot-long sculpture in East River State Park, but the work, by Polish artist Pawel Althamer, remains — for reasons unclear.

The sculpture, which is titled the “Queen Mother of Realty,” doesn’t have official authorization to be in the park, officials from the state Parks Department admitted Monday, following Thursday’s order for the work’s removal.

“It’s coming down this week,” Randy Simons, a state Parks Department spokesman told DNAinfo.

The temporary piece was constructed for the Performa Biennial arts festival, after which point it was scheduled to be dismantled on Thursday.

Performa officials did not immediately respond to DNAinfo’s requests for comment Monday. [DNAinfo]Julie Strickland
