$94M Pier 42 revamp moves forward

UPDATED, 5:12 p.m., December 14: A subcommittee of the Lower East Side’s Community Board 3 has given the green light to a $94 million overhaul of Pier 42. The project, which stretches across eight acres between Montgomery and Jackson streets, is awaiting final approvals from the Public Design Commission of the City of New York and the full board of Community Board 3 before kicking off.

The plan would raze a large waterfront shed and add a bike path, lawns, playground, marshes, and park, according to Curbed. It also calls for a green space in front of the river and a docking station for kayaks and small boats.
