From the South Florida site: Former Super Bowl hero Plaxico Burress took a $2 million loss on the short sale of his Lighthouse Point home, The Real Deal has learned.

Burress and his wife Tiffany sold the 2249 Northeast 26th Street residence for $2 million on Jan. 13, according to Broward County records. The county recorded the transaction Monday. The couple paid $4 million for the 6,872-square-foot home in September 2005, around the time when the residence was completed.

Mardig Asratian is the buyer of the five-bedroom home.

Deutsche Bank National Trust Co. filed a foreclosure lawsuit against Burress in 2010, when the wide receiver was serving a two-year prison sentence. Burress pled guilty to charges related to a 2008 incident in which he accidentally shot himself inside a New York City nightclub.

While playing for the New York Giants, Burress caught the winning touchdown pass during the 2008 Super Bowl. He currently plays for the Pittsburgh Steelers and is reportedly considering retirement from the National Football League. — Eric Kalis
