Urban American to feature art by veterans in Brooklyn buildings

 Urban American, which owns 90 properties in New York City, will begin decorating its buildings with art by veterans. The program, called Reticle – which refers to scopes used on military equipment — will kickoff in the lobby of A Building On North Fifth Street in Williamsburg.

“There are so many amazing artists in the military community, and we want to highlight that,” James Eisenberg, co-owner of Urban American, told the Brooklyn Paper.

The Williamsburg building lobby will feature a collage by Afghanistan war veteran Peter Meijer.

“We are trying to stay more community-friendly rather than make a political statement,” said Dan Gorman, who has photographs hanging in an Urban American building in Queens. “I want a kid to walk by and wonder where they can find the things in the pictures.”

Eisenberg told Brooklyn Paper that he hopes to eventually hang art by veterans in all of Urban American’s 19 Brooklyn buildings. [Brooklyn Paper] –Christopher Cameron
