Billy Macklowe buys another 1001 Fifth Avenue pad

Industry titan and wife already own inside UES building

Real estate investor Billy Macklowe and his wife Julie have bought another home at the co-op building 1001 Fifth Avenue, according to city records filed today. The pair paid $5.3 million for the apartment, which appears to have traded in an off-market deal.

Whether this new home will be used for an expansion was not immediately clear. A message to Macklowe seeking confirmation and comment — sent to him through a representative — was not immediately returned.

Records show that the Macklowes own other units inside the building, which is located at East 82nd Street on the Upper East Side — just across the avenue from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. They own what appears to be a combination unit just one floor below this most recent acquisition, which they bought for $6.8 million in 2004, according to city records and StreetEasy.

In addition, they own a unit on the eighth floor. They bought this home in 2007 for $959,000, according to property records and StreetEasy.

Listing information for their units is not available on StreetEasy.

Oscar Benedetti is listed as the seller of the Macklowes’ new apartment. He could not be reached.
