Area shop owners say they can't wait any longer

WEEKENDEDITION Businesses are still closed more than a week after a gas explosion leveled two 5-story apartment buildings, leaving eight people dead, in East Harlem.

Business owners closest to the explosion site told the New York Daily News that they are struggling to survive.

“We need to reopen because this is how we pay our bills, make a living and feed our children,” said Odalys Guzman, who operates D’Glamour Styles, A Salon On East 116th Street near Park Avenue. “We have to get it done.”

Since the explosion, streets have been closed and barricades put in place robbing businesses of customers. Many local shops also experienced damage to their windows and facades. [NYDN] Christopher Cameron
