Development on brownfield site in Greenpoint almost done
Domain Companies cleaned up oil-soaked former home of Brooklyn Rapid Transit Yard
Domain Companies is moving full steam ahead with redeveloping a Brooklyn brownfield site after purging the soil of oil contamination.
The Manhattan-based developer is nearly finished with the construction of a $67 million rental building for a Greenpoint parcel at 1133 Manhattan Avenue, the formerly polluted home of the Brooklyn Rapid Transit Yard, the Brooklyn Eagle reported.
The 35,800-square-foot property, located between Box and Clay streets at the mouth of Whale Creek, has undergone a complete “Track 1” cleanup, allowing Domain to use the land for any purpose, according to the paper. Domain has a 99-year lease on the building with owner M. Hiller and Sons.
Half of the units in the structure will be affordable housing, as previously reported. [BrooklynEagle] — Angela Hunt
