NYC Comptroller seeks feedback on Sandy Recovery
"There's a lot to audit because a lot has gone terribly wrong," Stringer says
Comptroller Scott Stringer will meet with Staten Island homeowners in Midland Beach tonight to discuss the city’s disbursement of funds for home rebuilding. The meeting is part of a broader effort by Stringer’s office to assess how federal aid money was spent under the city’s Build It Back program. The comptroller’s office is preparing to audit the program under the Sandy Oversight Program.
Earlier this month, Queens residents complained about mismanagement and the slow pace of implementation under the Build It Back program, DNAinfo reported.
“When it comes to Sandy there’s a lot to audit, because a lot has gone terribly wrong,” Stringer told attendees in Queens.
Mayor Bill de Blasio has criticized the program, which began under his predecessor Michael Bloomberg, and proposed changes last month, including reimbursing storm victims by the end of the summer. [DNAinfo] – Tom DiChristopher
