P.J. Clarke’s files suit over Brookfield Place renovation

Brookfield Office Properties asked restauranteurs to give up half of space or relocate, suit says

An affiliate of Brookfield Office Properties is facing a $40 million lawsuit from the owners of P.J. Clarke’s over allegations that the Brookfield Place tenant is being squeezed out.

P.J. Clarke’s claims that Brookfield is using renovations to push them out and sign a deal with a higher-paying tenant for that space. Falling debris, power outages, water leaks and disconnected phone lines have contributed to more than $6 million in revenue losses, according to the lawsuit filed in New York State Supreme Court As Cited By The Wall Street Journal. Brookfield has made no effort to repair the situation despite several complaints, the suit claims.

The restaurant owners, including Phil Scotti, claim they refused the landlord’s request that they move to another spot in Brookfield Place to forfeit half its space at 250 Vesey Street.
