City vendor accidentally withdrew property tax payments

2,000 property owners affected will be credited, spokesperson says

A Wisconsin-based vendor for the New York City Finance Department made a large tax error yesterday when it accidentally withdrew about 2,000 payments on property taxes.

Sound Billing of Wisconsin, which had created the payment file, hit the wrong button. Banks then informed the property owners that there were big overdrafts. Bills were not due to the city until July 1, but they had either already been paid or were paid as a result of a one-time electronic payment plan.
