Condo at Hemingway’s old digs leasing for $27.5K per month
Author rented at 1 East 62nd Street in 1959
A two-bedroom condominium in an Upper East Side building that served as a one-time home to legendary novelist Ernest Hemingway is available for $27,500 per month.
The duplex at 1 East 62nd Street features 19-foot-high ceilings and a wood-burning fireplace. Corcoran Group brokers Robby Browne, Chris Kann and Jennifer Ireland have the listing.
Hemingway rented a 900-square-foot, one-bedroom unit in the building back in 1959, two years before his suicide in Idaho. His connection to the building has been a recurring detail in brokers’ listings for various units there.
Comedienne Joan Rivers, who is president of the building’s condo board, has been embroiled in legal matters over an alleged Upper East Side “squatter.” [Curbed] — Mark Maurer
