WTC memorial will be open to public on 9/11 for the first time

For the first time, the public will be able to visit the ground zero commemoration site on the anniversary of the terrorist attacks.

The Plaza, which features two massive reflective pools as well as all the names of all the victims, will not be open during the 13th remembrance ceremony, but will open from 6 p.m. until midnight on Sept. 11 this year. This will allow visitors will to see the twin beams — “the Tribute in Light” — from up close.

The memorial plaza opened in 2011, but until now the public were required to have tickets and undergo a security screening. Since the underground museum has opened, The Plaza has been open to the public. [Crain’s] — Claire Moses
