Magna Hospitality buys Hampton Inn near JFK for $41M

13-story hotel in Jamaica sold for the first time since opening in 2001

Rhode Island-based hotel investment and management firm Magna Hospitality Group acquired a 13-story Hampton Inn near John F. Kennedy International Airport in Jamaica for $41.4 million, according to property records filed with the city today.

The nearly 115,000-square-foot property at 144-10 135th Avenue, near 145th Street, holds 216 rooms. An affiliate of Wayne, Pa.-based Field Hotel Associates has owned the site since 2001, when the hotel opened there.

It is unknown if brokers were involved in the deal. Magna declined to comment.

Magna is best known in New York City for its many dealings with Great Neck, N.Y-based hotel developer Sam Chang, who sold a property at 12 Water Street in Lower Manhattan to the firm for $44.3 million in March, as The Real Deal reported.

In 2008, Magna bought a Hampton Inn at 59 West 35th Street in Midtown from Chang.
