Mayor Bill de Blasio made the announcement at a Queens job fair in Far Rockaway, according to the New York Daily News. De Blasio also said that the city would invest $1.1 million to expand job placement programs in the Rockaways, according to the newspaper.

“A lot of people were hit very hard by the storm in communities that were already hurting. The storm only made clearer some inequalities that have existed for years and decades,” de Blasio told the newspaper. “We are trying in every way to take the opportunity to rebuild also as an opportunity to achieve greater fairness.” [NYDN] — Claire Moses
