Facebook is holding an official unveiling ceremony tonight to show off its new 185,000-square-foot space at the Vornado Realty Trust building at 770 Broadway. The social-media titan sees itself as a “catalyst” for the tech industry in New York City and expects the new Frank Gehry-designed space to serve as a recruiting tool.

“A company like that would have influence wherever they go, between the local retail and local businesses,” Jim Wenk of JLL told the Wall Street Journal. “They also have a lot of high-paying jobs.”

Vornado has owned the 15-story, 940,000-square-foot property since 2006. AOL and several other technology firms are among the tenants. [WSJ]Mark Maurer
