An Upper East Side mansion could set a record for the most expensive townhouse ever sold in Manhattan.

The home at 24 East 81st Street is being put up for sale, according to the New York Daily News. The home has been in the same hands for roughly four decades and could sell for as much as $70 million, the newspaper reported.

The owners of the home are affiliated with development company Centaur Properties. They have been talking to the city’s top brokers about listing the property, according to the newspaper.

The Harkness Mansion at 4 East 75th Street holds the record for the priciest townhouse ever sold. Private equity mogul J. Christopher Flowers bought the property in 2006 for $53 million. [NYDN] — Claire Moses
