Brookfield development exec jumps to RXR Realty

Philip Wharton to build out firm's resi development portfolio

Philip Wharton, a Brookfield Office Properties executive who oversaw its Manhattan West project, has joined Scott Rechler’s RXR Realty.

Wharton will serve as an executive vice president and build out RXR’s residential development portfolio, Crain’s reported. In 2012, he joined Brookfield to handle strategic initiatives for the 10 million square feet the firm has in development nationwide.

“RXR wants to do more multifamily wherever it makes sense,” Wharton told the publication. “Especially since there are a lot of opportunities out there to do mixed-use projects.”

The Manhattan West development on the far West Side is slated to include a residential tower, three office properties and a hotel. JPMorgan recently signed a lease for 123,000 square feet at 5 Manhattan West, or 450 West 33rd Street, as reported. [Crain’s]Mark Maurer
