Manhattan landlord Vincent Downing killed in UES car accident

He owned 12 properties on the island

Landlord Vincent Downing was killed Tuesday as he walked the streets of the Upper East Side.

The 85-year-old head of Vincent Downing Real Estate was crushed between a car and a moving truck at about 10:40 a.m. on East 71st Street near Third Avenue. First responders rushed him to New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical center, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries, the New York Daily News reported.

Downing owned properties in Chelsea, Midtown West, the West Village, Lenox Hill, and the Upper East and Upper West sides, including the 24-unit 221 West 28th Street and the 16-unit 752 9th Avenue. In total he owned 12 buildings and a combined 144 units, according to city records.

The car’s driver, who is 83-years-old, has not been charged with a crime, the Daily News reported. He told police he accidentally shifted into reverse. [NYDN]Ariel Stulberg
