A large deck attached to an iconic Bushwick mansion collapsed early this morning, injuring 16 people.
The deck at the Cook Mansion – the 1880 home of Catherina Lipsius, owner of the Claus Lipsius Brewing Company — collapsed during a party around 12:30 a.m. A FDNY spokesman told the New York Post that two of 16 people injured were seriously hurt.
Initial reports stated that some party-goers were trapped under the deck at 670 Bushwick Avenue.
The property is owned by Jean Baptiste Bruno and his wife, Rosa, according to public records.
“I think just old age and rot and disrepair, it just wasn’t maintained properly” FDNY Battalion Chief Dennis Murphy told ABC-7. [NYP] –Christopher Cameron
